America Unearthed "Grand Canyon Treasure"

Already I'm getting good suggestions about how to locate the cave in the Grand Canyon.  They are good ideas, but were not practical or possible given the limited time the America Unearthed crew and I had there.  However, that doesn't mean we couldn't try rafting in below the spot where the cave is in the future.  Once located, a climb could then be organized once you know where you're going.  Others have suggested using a camera-equipped drone to find the entrance, also is a great idea.  The issue there is the area below the rim is a no-fly zone, but maybe drones are OK?  Isn't the best way to alleviate suspicion is for the government to be completely open and allow an investigation?  Stay tuned.

As far as Burrows Cave goes, I have to admit that I'm not optimistic.  In fact, I did check out both areas circled on Harry's map.  The problem is that even though I couldn't find an entrance, it was so overgrown I could have walked right over it.  I am also skeptical about the artifacts, some I know for sure are fakes.  There could very well be some that are real, but the fakes have polluted the whole collection in my opinion.  Those fans who are interested in reading more about these other fakes should check out my latest book, Akhenaten to the Founding Fathers: The Mysteries of the Hooked X.

The biggest problem with Burrows Cave is Russell Burrows.  Based on the factual evidence we have so far, the Isis Stone being a 100% fake casts a long dark shadow over Russell's claim.  Russell says he cares about history, but if he really did he would have taken skeptical academics to the site and shut them up.  But it appears he is planning to take his secret to the grave leaving historians with no other choice but to conclude it was all a hoax.  A man with honor would have come forward long ago.

Don't miss this great blog post by Norman Byrd

"Scott Wolter is the forensic geologist. He's not too satisfied with the idea that Columbus was the first European to discover the Americas or with the notion that other ancient cultures didn't at some time venture forth and have commerce with areas that are now located in the US. As he notes in the promotional video clip for the show, 'Sometimes history isn't what we've been told.'"

"And who knows? Scott Wolter could be correct. There could have been several cultural incursions into the Americas that pre-date the landing of Columbus. Besides, Native Americans still take exception to the story that Christopher Columbus "discovered" America -- when millions of Americans were already here when he arrived."

Here's the link to Norman's blog post.

  1. There is a movie about a cave in the Grand Canyon. It has a lot of similarities to this episode. It was made almost 40 years ago.

  2. I suspect the movie was related to this same story going back to the 1909 Newspaper article. Do you remember the title of the film?

  3. Scott, on a different blog Harry Hubbard claims that you have "a tablet about a foot tall of a king in Egyptian garb holding a staff and an ankh...." and "three fine tablets depicting Cleopatra...". He believes these ultimately originated from the Burrows Cave and that they are genuine artifacts. Do you believe the same? If so, why were they not shown on this episode?

    1. I do own those stones, but I don't know if they are genuine or not. I've said many times, until I know the environment they cave from I can't say anything about weathering. Was it a wet cave, a dry cave? Was it ever in a cave at all? We will never know the answer until Russell shows us the cave. If he doesn't, then I'm afraid history will conclude it was a hoax. Much as I'd love for the cave to exist, I'd be forced to agree with the hoax conclusion.

We could only show a few artifacts because of time limitations.

  4. That's too bad. I don't know how much influence you have on the final edits of each episode, but I'm sure you can appreciate that it would be helpful if more time could be devoted to artifacts, historical documents, etc. I realize it's a delicate balance to keep the show interesting, but many of the amazing claims/theories presented would feel more credible with additional hard evidence.

  5. I don't think showing more artifacts would constitute addtitional hard evidence. Without knowing where they came from or the environment; one artifact is no different than ten. We need to see the cave!

I don't have the coordinates of the cave, but if you Google the Grand Canyon and look around you'll soon start seeing Egyptian names appear. It's in that area.

      Good luck.

  6. Hi Scott, I've been using "Google Earth" to search the area where Burrows cave is suppose to be located. I found a large unusual shape that might be a marker of where a cave might be. It can only be seen from high above. It is a very distinct looking shape that you would find on a treasure map. How can I send you the coordinates?

  8. This episode really got that childlike treasure hunter feeling really lit inside of us. Too bad the cave is so darn inaccessible. There has to be a way, but not sure it matters if the gov. probably already took the artifacts and tucked them into a Vatican type vault in D.C. But I get it, it's about the surrounding evidence too that will rid a lot of the speculation. Then again if the gov. was there and took the artifacts, why would there be a no fly zone. I have to say though, the old footage shown that Jerry and Heather think was a government patrol flying by and eyeballing them, looks like a tourist plane, perhaps before it was a no fly zone or perhaps has permits to fly the area. Who knows. So many questions?

  9. Brian,

There are a lot of questions; especially in the Grand Canyon and this possible cave that I'm inclinded to beleive is there. Unfortunately, we just didn't have the time to do more than we did. However, I'd be thrilled to see someone else mount an effort and discovery the truth about what is or isn't down there.

Maybe someday we'll give it another try; perhaps using a camera-equiped drone as many people have suggested.

  11. The bull carving in Oklahoma apears to be a spanish fighting bull. The mane on the bull would be the streamers that are stuck into the neck muscles to prevent the bull from being able to raise its head to make it unable to manuever well enough to catch the bullfighter. Carving the horns more upright allows for a better depiction of a more ferocious bull to glorify the courage of the bullfighters. Just sayin.

Hi Scott, I am from Huntsville, Alabama and I find strange grantile stone that looks like manmade and it was pointing at woods so I decided to go to the woods, I found perfect pyramid Stone and it looks like aligned to sun and I found rocks that looks like steps and I walked up, I found a cave and it looks like people put small rocks to block this cave.. That strange stone points straight to the cave, stone steps, and pyramid Stone, I have pictures to show you and I also made a map for you.. For your additional information, we have a legend that we have massive underground cave in North Alabama and Huntsville is sitting on it.. Massive underground cave here is only 6 or little more percent explored and not able to explore more because it is very dangerous, has strong water current that will harm explorers.. With only 6 percent explored of cave here, I believe there is something here that no one has found yet and Huntsville is new city.. Ancestors loved caves that I'm sure that you agree with me and we have massive cave here so I'm sure ancestors took it as good place to hide.. How do I send you pictures of these strange stones?

  15. Hello Scott, I am fan and I have watched your show since the first season and this episode enjoyed due to the Roman/Egyptian elements and I was a Classical Historian in Major College and continued studying the Period of the Roman Republic since I graduated. But after I watched your episode I have been thinking about one thing. You said in your episode that you thought that possible Egyptians and Romans came over here with the son of Marc Antony and Cleopatra, Alexander Helios and I am not disputing that. I think that the evidence that the you were showing needs further investigation, but what I have been thinking about since I watched the episode is that just perhaps it was not only Alexander Helios that the ancient Egyptians helped escape and transport to America in hiding and help start a new kingdom, but someone that would have already been a pharaoh in their minds, Caesarion, Cleopatra’s son by Julius Caesar. Very little to nothing is actually documented in histories about his death except that he was believed to have been strangled on the orders by Octavian while trying to escape to India en route through Ethiopia with much treasure but returned to Egypt on the false promise of being crowned Pharaoh of Egypt. Then any mention of Caesarion disappears. What if Caesarion somehow made it to America in addition to Alexander Helios? Caesarion was already crowned king of kings in 34 BC; co-ruler and Pharaoh with Cleopatra VII and those Egyptians loyal to him would have done anything to save him if they could have. It is just a thought that I was having because no mention is ever made of Casearion and Augustus knew that too many Casears is always a bad thing and no matter what he had to kill Casesarion, even if he could never find him. Octavian had to make the world think that he did. And once he did Casearion could go anywhere no one would find him even to America.
Multiple Egyptian outposts would have been established in America and if what was said is correct that Mr Burrow melted down the tablets of gold we do not know what was exactly on them and we will have to find the other caves to find what other evidence might be out there to prive that Alexander Helios did come over rather than live out his life in Rome. History says that Helios died between 29-25 BC in Rome under the care of Octavians sister Octavia. If you take a step back and look at who is writing the history it is the victor, and Octavian was the victor, and Octavian was concerned with his image and the welfare of a stable Rome, everything seems too tidy to have the children of Marc Antony and Casear’s, son a threat to Octavian, all die within one or five years of their parents or disappeared from history forever by malicious or natural causes.

  16. Cory,

It is intriguing that this period of history definitely leaves the door open for a number of possibilities that could put important people here who could have fled to the known sanctuary in America. However, it doesn't prove that they did.

While the Burrows Cave artifacts are very interesting and could certainly be connected to such events, the very dark cloud of known fakes and the constantly shifting stories of Russell Burrows leaves the situation murky to the point of sludge.

I'd love to believe in any one of the scenarios you present, but until I see something underground in a sound archaeological context that can be definitively dated to that period, Burrows Cave will remain an intriguing unsolved mystery.

Great show love it. Just watched the Grand Canyon episode and have to say you gave up too easy there. What you need to do is go back with a Quad Copter and a Go Pro mounted to it. That would give you the ability to fly down there and know for sure what is in the canyon wall. Today's quad copters can fly for 30 to 40 minutes
with ease and send back full color HD video.

  18. Been reading about ancient or antedeluvian cultures in america for a while now. One storey in particular i found involved a prospector and or possibly two. Falling in a hole on a mountain. The location was in death valley i beleive. A place called boiler or (furnace) creek near wingate pass. Anyway he fell in and discovered a lost city with mummies of extinct animals and people wearing strange clothes with atefacts and gold everywhere. He even claimed to find a passage that led out overlooking fhe valley below and there was evidence of a dock..like an ocean or lake oncr filled the valley. Said gentlemen then left got drunk on his pilfered riches and was never able to find the location again after bringing some acadamians possibly smithsonian to locate it. Something to think about. Also over hear on vancouver island not far from where i live there is said to be a tunnel carved out of rock with steps and full of spanish treasure. A search for the lost tunnel of leechtown will bring up most info ive found on it. Ive heard of metal detectors finding spanish gold and silver dating back to 13 or 14th century in the area.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sounds like an interesting story? If it dates to the 13th or 14th century then it's likely Templar rather than Spanish. The Spanish took info gleaned from the Templars and immediately went after the gold and silver in the America's.

  23. Hi Scott,
Just watched a couple of your programs. As you know "when the going gets tough the tough get going". It is really quite obvious that you are far more concerned about being an entertainer and a anti government conspiracy theorist than a scientist. Living in the west and having spent many weeks exploring the canyons of the the southwest I know that it would actually be reasonable and very doable to mount a trip to visit the cave you claim is in the cliff area on the North rim of the Grand Canyon. Why would you travel hundreds or thousands of miles aproaching the location of what you think may be the resting place of one of the worlds greatest artifacts only to allow a few hundred feet of cliff face to stop you cold? Sorry but its quite obvious where your priorities are. Really quite disappointing. Hope to see in the future that you have the courage of your claimed convictions and follow up more fully on things that could be so important to mankind. Integrity is a rare quality these days. Anyway enjoy your entertainment career. I have seen worse.

    Sincerely RT

  24. I was frustrated and disappointed to not get farther in that episode at the Grand Canyon, but I think you'll see that I have pretty good luck most of the time. If you watched more of the shows you'll realize we do reach a conclusion and often it's surprising and truly history changing. On the other hand, sometimes the answer is there simply isn't enough evidence to draw a definitive conclusion. It sucks, but if it's the appropriate conclusion then you have to say it.

I can promise you we do the best we can and will continue to.

  27. Hello Scott,

First of all, I would like to say I love the show! I really like the attitude in which you approach history. Rewriting it all is no easy task! I've personally always believed that mankind has been capable of more than what "history" has taught us. You have a fan in me!
Now to this Grand Canyon business - I found this story instantly intriguing. My family has roughly 30 years rafting the Grand Canyon, but this is the first time I, or anyone in my family that I know of, have heard of this cave and the claims surrounding it. Needless to say, this struck close to home for me!
I started doing a little internet research about the location of the cave, and have sort of found out that there is a lot of speculation about the location, leading to multiple ideas on location. Although, I do remember hearing some of the radio chatter from the chopper pilot on the show that mentioned the Little Colorado River. If that is near the location you were investigating, then I also found a recently posted YouTube video of a man claiming to have used Google Earth to find some megalithic features and the location of the cave. He says it is a few miles up river from the Little Colorado near Nankoweep Canyon. Of course, Google Earth is only so reliable when you zoom in to distances you would like to!
I was on a rafting trip as a boatman just this last August (2014), and had I seen this episode before my trip, I would have had my eyes glued to the canyon walls looking for clues! Had I seen anything, I would have rowed my boat to the shore and investigated.
Any light you could shed would be helpful, as I am positive I will have multiple more trips through the canyon in the future. Those trips will definitely involve a GoPro and a quad copter!
Here is the link to the YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sz21JUMPCi0

Thank you for you hard work! I look forward to more discoveries!

More people have written to me about the Grand Canyon episode than any other and for the most part they are disappointed we didn't get down to the cave. Drones have been suggested numerous times and it's a good idea we should have looked into more than we did.

I'm hoping to take another crack at it and rafting down and climbing up to the entrance makes the most sense to me. If you do go down the river again soon, I can tell you it's supposedly on the left and up as you look down river. Not sure of its exact location, but when the time comes I'll figure it out.

  31. It would be fun to send in a drone to explore... why not?

Of course, none of us know the truth, but I have a suspicion the treasure cave in the Grand Canyon is a 100 year old newspaper hoax or advertising ploy (to draw tourists to the new hotel) as written in the anonymously penned April 1909 article about GE Kincaid, Professor Jordan, and the fantastic Tibetan treasure they had supposedly uncovered, in great detail, for the Smithsonian.

Trouble is, despite the articles details, there is no proof to back up any of it. No photos, no objects, no Prof Jordan, etc..

What's more interesting is that the prior month in March there was an article about a G.E. Kincaid who had already finished his boat trip down the Colorado River.

The article says he traveled alone (not with Prof Jordan) and had taken a camera and made 700 photographs. There is no mention of a treasure, instead, the most interesting feature Mr. Kincaid noticed had to do with a dam. I'll post the text below... it said he found some artifacts, and finished his journey and hoped to make the trip again the following year with friends.

It seemed rather a typical story for someone who just finished a boat trip, found some native artifacts, had a fun time on the river, and hoped to return to do it again. It did not seem like a Smithsonian treasure hunt into massive caves.

Thus, more likely than a Tibetan treasure cave, it seems more probable that some newspaper writer , or hotel employee from the Grand Canyon's El Tovar, decided to base a fictitious story on G.E. Kincaid to have some fun, maybe sell some papers, or help the El Tovar hotel at the Grand Canyon...

The fanciful article in April about amazing treasures contradicts the earlier article, in March, but if you want to believe in it, you can persuade yourself the first article was a cover-up by Kincaid.. Text below:

[note: I found a Kincaid in Lewiston, Idaho, but not G.E. in that era, in the US Census. Could be the name was wrong, or could be he didn't exist]

    Arizona Gazette, March 12, 1909

    “G. E. Kincaid Reaches Yuma.”

"G. E. Kincaid of Lewiston, Idaho.

arrived in Yuma after a trip from Green River, Wyoming, down the entire course of the Colorado River. He is the second man to make this journey and came alone in a small skiff, stopping at his pleasure to investigate the surrounding country. He left Green River in October having a small covered boat with oars, and carrying a fine camera, with which he secured over 700 views of the river and canyons which were unsurpassed. Mr. Kincaid says one of the most interesting features of the trip was passing through the sluiceways at Laguna dam. He made this perilous passage with only the loss of an oar. Some interesting archaeological discoveries were unearthed and altogether the trip was of such interest that he will repeat it next winter in the company of friends."

That's an interesting possibility especially considering archaeologists and skeptics consider them a hoax. This point alone gives them instant credibility in my opinion. It doesn't prove anything of course, but it certainly means their origin is still in question. One point reportedly offered by the skeptics that makes no sense is the artifact's show no evidence of wear from being buried in the ground. Just what kind of wear is supposed to happen underground?

As for their being somehow related to the "dinosaur" carved into one of the Tucson Lead Artifact swords, I think it looks more like a lizard from 1200 years ago and not a dinosaur.

  42. It's funny how the citizens are supposed to really be the ones represented in government, but instead the government blocks citizens at every turn to find even the most basic truths.

Why would a permit be denied for a respected TV channel? What is so special about that section of canyon that they don't want anyone exploring it? Who is in charge of this nonsense? Area 51? It's a canyon for god's sake, not a military base.

It shouldn't be this difficult to find the truth. But then they don't even want us leaving our houses these days despite the pandemic mostly being dangerous for those over 85. The whole thing reeks of a coverup for something bigger going on in the background like a magician's sleight of hand.

I know the Ancient Alien folk think everything is about aliens, but someone coming from Euorpe before Columbus shouldn't be that controversial! We know the Egyptians made it to Australia. Why not America? What would be so earth changing that they would go to such lengths to cover it up?

I can tell you one of the biggest issues is the Roman Catholic Church does not want the truth about pre-Columbian cultures in America before Chris to come out, especially not the Templars. That would trigger a series of dominoes to start falling that go to inconvenient places that would undermine their false narrative that has gripped the world for nearly two millennia.

The Church has and continues to provide large amounts of funding to institutions that craft the false story like the Smithsonian Institution and our favorite bastion of lies Wikipedia.
