Jerry Lutgen Decodes the "90-Foot Stone"

I've invited my friend and fellow Templar researcher, Jerry Lutgen, to offer a guest blog posting about his reading of the "90-foot Stone" cipher allegedly found on Oak Island.  This post was written in anticipation of Episode 4, of Season 4, of the Oak Island show on History Channel, where rumor has it the long missing stone will be rediscovered.  Jerry wanted to get his translation out before the show airs to see if he may have beaten them to the punch.  What do you think?

Decoding the “90 Foot Stone” and the “La Formule” Document

Jerry Lutgen

        December 4, 2016

Many readers of this blog may have seen a recent episode of The Curse of Oak Island during which a local researcher named Doug Crowell presented information relating to the so-called “90 foot stone.”  This stone, allegedly from the “Money Pit”, contains a coded inscription which has received a controversial reading of “forty feet below are two million pounds.”

During the program Crowell also presented the La Formule document which has come to be associated with Oak Island and the “90 foot stone.”  It appears that this document was first shown to the public by McGinnis family of Oak Island fame in their recent book “Oak Island Connection.”  In their book they explain that the La Formule document was of great importance to their brother Jim McGinnis who told them that this document was only part of a larger set of papers.

A quick examination of the document reveals two things.  First, it uses a superset of the symbols employed on the “90 foot stone.” Second, as hinted at by Jim McGinnis, this document appears to have been excised from a larger document in such a way that some words or letters are missing.

The reading cited above for the “90 foot stone” has been rejected by many Oak Island researchers.  Still I asked myself, what if that decoding is correct and can it be used to help in the decoding of the La Formule page.  It turns out that this reading of the “90 foot stone” is correct.  It says “forty feet below are two million pounds.”  We know this because it provides an unambiguous direct starting point that I was able to use in developing a substitution cipher that decodes the La Formule document into a very intriquing set of French text.  Here is the French text followed by a translation of the French into English.

La Formule

"Halte ne terrer pas creuser a

quarante pied avec a angle quarante

cinq degre la hampe a cinq cent

vignt deux pied a vous entre lec?

?reidor a un mille ….. soixante cinq pied

atteinte la chambre."

  The Formula

"Halt do burrow not dig at

forty feet with an angle forty

five degrees the shaft at five hundred

twenty two feet as you enter ???

?????? a thousand sixty five feet

reached the chamber."

Each line in the French and English text are broken at the same place as on the original La Formule document, as it comes to us.  Because this document has been somehow excised  from a larger document it means that some of the lines of the French text are incomplete.  In some cases this means that there are missing letters and in other cases it could even mean there are missing words.  In order to make better sense of what has been written I have taken the liberty of completing some of the beginning and ending words in a way that makes linquistic and contextual sense.   These additions are in blue.  You will see that at the end of line four and the beginning of line five I was unable to complete the missing French words.  I have done my best with this adding of letters to make sensible French words, but clearly this is a potential source of error.

I was aided in the process of fine tuning the cipher and translating the French into English by an experienced French translator.  Again we have done the best we can, but given the inherent vagaries of translating French from an unknown time and place as well as the potential for deciphering and editing errors in the original French we must accept that there may be problems with the resulting English.

There is one other bit of broken French text at the bottom of the document.  Someone has hand written in French:  “Vingt….La Valeur” which translates as “Twenty…..the Value.”

What is the document telling us?  Unsurprisingly, the document reads clumsily, as if in some places there are missing words  The first line is a bit confusing.  Is it instructing the reader of the document to stop burrowing and dig in another way?   In any event it clearly seems to be some kind of instructions to find a chamber.  Of course, our imaginations immediately turn to a chamber associated with Oak Island, perhaps even the Money Pit.

Questions?

  3. Jerry, since it is unlikely that the hole went down a thousand feet, it seems like the distances and angles are referring to features found on the surface in the vicinity of the Money Pit. Sounds like they are giving distances to the flood tunnels? Thanks for sharing your work!

    1. Patrick,

I thought the same thing which definitely makes more sense. Although I've always been skeptical about the flood tunnels. My guess the flooding encountered while digging was nothing more than the water table. After all, Oak Island is a glacial end moraine island on the ocean.

  4. Hi Jerry, do you think maybe the many double-dots that appear throughout the "La Formule" document as full colons might be considered as word separators; and if so, do you think they might be mimicking a runic background from the encoder/s, since words and some phrases in rune messages are separated in such a way? Thanks.

  5. I thought a lot about word separators and I can definitely rule out that double dots are word separators. In most cases who ever wrote this used space (somewhat inconsistently) as a word separator.

    1. Thanks a lot for the reply. If I understand this issue correctly, your "substitute cipher" performs the same way as double-checking a math problem--where the answer is found to be correct back and forward, twice. It seems to me that your methodology is straightforward and clear and most likely accurate.

What this portends, I don't know, except that the encoder/s were proficient in both French and English, and hid or confused the cipher so as to allow a substitute or second cipher to be revealed through language translation. In other words, two methods were allowed or available, I think, unless the code was undecipherable without the language translation. What do you think...does the original cipher work on its own--as understandable and decoded another way, or does the original coding (all the symbols, etc.) depend on a second decoding through language translation?

Is your idea of a substitute cipher the same as the idea of a second and necessary cipher, to be used together, or not? Thanks again.

    2. Scott, thanks for not posting my last comment, which had a flaw in logic.

Jerry, do you think the information suggests that the "La Formule" information possibly originated from another stone found on a dig on the way down to where the "90-foot stone" was found? Thanks.

  7. I think for things like this you always have to be on the alert for some other possible layer of meaning. Is that going on here? Beats me.

    ReplyDelete
  8. In looking at this document, in my little bubble, a couple of things popped up. First was your comment from Doug Crowell ("....contains a coded message...."). Were the characters themselves a "code" or "just the language was a code". If both, then a cipher (the enigma machine - Nazis), was used. Thus, we have this "illogical" statement. I believe the KS was written down from memory (Francis Yates) and thus could the "90 foot" also be written from memory. Meaning, was the code written in an "area or group" sensitive language. My point, are we working with a "double (triple) cipher" in the original language. And now, we are working with a triple translation into English.

My second point is you mentioned the paper was torn in such a way as to "make disappear" letters or words. Is there any indication the scrap of paper was from the middle, top, bottom, etc etc of the original page. Also, as the torn section on the left which appears not to be tear at all but a concentrated "section removal", would this fragment itself be a map?, coded shape?, or __________.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Actually, I said that the La Formule page "appears to be excised from a larger document". I meant the literally. We do not know that what we see was torn from a larger document. Since we believe we are working with copies or more probably copies of copies, it is entirely possible that it was made to look like it was cut or torn from a larger document.

Could the outline of the page actually be a map? That occurred to me too. I spent a bit of time trying find a fit for it as a map, but no luck.

Could we be dealing we multiple levels of codes? Sure, maybe. I only made an attempt at a first level decode. I have no insight about how to proceed toward a second level decode.

    2. Jerry, these are off-the-wall ideas, but here goes: Considering that many Medieval Era portolan maps were crafted on animal hides, perhaps the "cut out" areas and the line which outlines the entire body stems from the cipher being written on an animal hide. Another possible idea behind the shape, and this is a really slim idea, again deals with portolan maps. The islands on portolans, for the most part, were drawn using a "representative convention." Maybe the shape matches a portolan map depiction for an island.

I just went to Egypt and the vibrations within the temples and pyramids are both palpable and audible. It seems there was a human-sound-geophysical-astronomical technology at global sites that the snakes represented and that we are just beginning to remaster. 15. Great job on decoding La Formule. As one of the other comments mentions, a number of other people came up with essentially the same result. I have an open mind about the La Formule document, but the bottom line is that there is no real way to eliminate the possibility that it was just a clever late 19th century or early 20th century fabrication. The most that was ever claimed for it is that it is a copy of something else. Until or unless that "something else" surfaces and can be authenticated, it is very hard to attribute much importance to the La Formule cipher. However, it is good to keep working on the question.

Pied should be pieds as it is in pluriel, vignt should be vingt, degre should be pluriel also, so should be degres, etc...this doesn't give much credibility to the authenticity...feels more like a not-so-well crafted hoax...

    1. Actually you found a typo that I made - vignt should have been vingt. Also, you are quite right to point our that there are problems with the plurals. The person who helped me with the French translation thought that this might suggest that the author was a poorly educated French person. I suppose it could also indicate that a non-native French speaker was the author or as you suggest could this just be a carelessly prepared hoax. Yet another possibility is that this is a clue to their being a second level "code" incorporated into the text.

  20. Hey scott,
I heard a debunker theory that someone created the Tuscon lead artifact "hoax" by the hoaxers making caliche themselves, because this debunker said caliche could be formed in mere hours. As a geologist, is this a true statement about caliche? This debunker also said that the dinosaur was indeed a dinosaur and was a drawing from the early 20th century, and the reason it had a forked tongue was because people thought of dinosaurs as big lizards. Do you think this statement has any merit? Did you check out the weathering of the latin inscriptions?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Anonymous,

Debunkers will say whatever they think they need to as support for what they don’t believe in regardless if it has merit or factual basis. The manufactured caliche comment is silly as it has been well documented the artifacts were found in a perfect archaeologist context buried in up to six feet of naturally deposited, caliche encrusted alluvial sand and gravel deposits. Further, the crystalline malachite and azurite mineralization within recesses on the back sides of one of the crosses took centuries to develop in that environment.

As for the “dinosaur,” it looks more like a lizard with a forked tongue, or a mythological creature made by the people who carved it. Just because it looks like “Dino” doesn’t mean that’s what it was intended to be.

I'm not an expert on Latin, so my comments don't have much merit in that regard. However, the claim the Latin on the artifacts was modern is not a valid criticism. First, if Latin phrases exist today then they had to have developed at some point in the past. If it isn't known when they were first written, then claiming they're modern doesn't work. Since the age of the artifacts are consistent with 1200 years in the ground, then the Latin must date to the period documented within the text.

  22. Has anyone considered the possibility of this being the wrong Oak Island? In the episode where the Lagina brothers met with the man relaying his Captain Kidd theory, they showed a map from a book, which they claimed was "Oak Island". The map didn't look much like Oak Island, Nova Scotia, BUT, it sure did resemble Oak Island, Minnesota. Yet another Oak Island, complete with the exact same artificial triangular swamp!

I've seen this exact same triangular body of water where I grew up. An artificial lake excavated from the lower side of a hill. Could possibly be concealing an entrance into the interior of the hill, above water level.

Regarding the "Captain Kidd treasure map" shown, I'm suggesting IF, and that's a BIG IF, Captain Kidd hid treasure on Oak Island, it was likely in Minnesota. Both Oak Islands having the EXACT same artificial body of water in the shape of an equilateral triangle can't be a coincidence.

I too believe the "treasure" was recovered long ago. I just it interesting the closest source of coconut fiber, is the same place Colon/Columbus landed.

  24. The hooked X is a biblical key with prophetic significance. Please check out the blog of Tom Kovach where he explains it in great detail. The templars treasures are mostly hidden under churches including Roslyn Chapel actually concealed because they knew that they would remain undiscovered. Finally, Jesus did not marry Mary or anyone else and did not have children. You are human so i will give you grace for being wrong. Other than that, keep up the good work. God Bless you in your adventures.

    1. Braveheart,

I can say with certainty the Hooked X isn’t a biblical code; the symbolism associated with it is much older than the Bible. The Templar treasures have not been in Europe for over 350 and 600 years, respectively, and that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and had multiple children is a near certainty. Their mortal remains along with their son Judah’s were found in the Talpiot Tomb in Jerusalem in 1980. You don’t have to believe that, but your opinion to the contrary doesn’t mean it’s not so.

Other than that everything else is good.

    2. Dear Scott, as much as I like reading about a lot of interesting topics on your site, and as much as I think that anybody has the right to question historical items, your comment "that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and had multiple children is a near certainty", is not reflecting the current-state facts on the Talpiot Tomb. It's very suspicious that a documentary on the story was directed by James Cameron, and that later all involved Scholars claim to have been misguided and misrepresented in the documentary. In a later documentary they clearly state to be shocked by how they were used, and make a strong claim to dismiss the so-called "evidence" on the claims. Also the claims that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married are to my opinion not supported by any hard evidence, and is highly speculative. It's a theory that can survive in "popular science", but not in "decent science". Just my opinion, no offense intended whatsoever. Kind regards,

      P. Ferguson.

    3. P. Ferguson,

There are many esoteric traditions that include Jesus and Mary Magdalene being husband and wife with children that have been around for many centuries before the Talpiot Tomb was discovered. The names on the ossuaries inside the “family” tomb confirm the legends within these traditions. These ossuaries are hard factual evidence that I find hard to interpret any other way. That being said, you are free to believe whatever you wish.

As far as how the scholars were treated in the 2007 documentary you refer to. I watched what was supposed to be a two-hour documentary that was pared down to one hour due to complaints to the advertisers of Discovery Channel by upset Roman Catholics before the show even aired. Then I watched the two-hour Q & A by three scholars and watched them abuse Simcha Jacobovici with unfair criticism and attacks on his very sound research. It was shameful the way he was treated by the scholars in my opinion.

The Talpiot Tomb evidence speaks for itself and you are free to accept or reject it. That is your choice.

    4. P. Ferguson,

In your post above regarding the Talpiot Tomb you state that " all involved Scholars claim to have been misguided and misrepresented in the documentary...and make a strong claim to dismiss the so-called "evidence" on the claims". While it is true that some scholars feel that way, it is completely untrue that all scholars feel that way. For example, I would direct to a recent publication from the eminent James Charlesworth titled "The Tomb of Jesus and His Family? (2013). This book demonstrates that there is a much more balanced view about the nature of the Talpiot Tomb than we are lead to believe in the popular press.

I have studied the Talpiot Tomb for years and I have concluded that the Talpiot tomb is almost certainly the family tomb of the biblical Jesus. Furthermore, the tomb is another piece of the puzzle which points to the very real possibility that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married. (see talpiottomb.com)

In doing a little research into the Newport tower, i found that archaeologists were able to radio carbon date it to the mid 1600s. Do you think they got it right or not? There was also a windmill that looked very similar, the Chesterton windmill. Your thoughts?

    1. Paulie,

Archaeologists have NOT C-14 dated the Tower to the mid 1600's and the Chesterton Windmill sits on six stone pillars, not eight, and was originally built as an observatory. It was later retrofitted into a windmill. Further, it has nothing to do with the Newport Tower and is irrelevant to the discussion.

The Newport Tower was built in 1395 likely under the direction of Sir Humphrey Dennison.

    1. Paulie,

Sir Humphrey Dennison will be introduced to the world in due time. I’m quite surprised a site called “American Scientist” published an article about mortar that is so inaccurate. The mortar in the Newport Tower was made from firing shells to drive off the carbon dioxide which produces ‘lime.’ By adding water the powered lime, mixed with sand, gets hard producing ‘hydrated lime.’ There is no organic carbon to date in freshly cured lime mortar. It isn’t until the lime reacts with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and carbonates, making it physically more brittle and significantly lowering its ph, that you have something with datable organic carbon.

This carbonation reaction takes time and is progressive. The rate of carbonation is a function of the porosity of the original mortar, the amount of CO2 gas present, and time. Therefore, when “Jungner drilled into the mortar between the stones in the columns of the tower, going deep so as to get past any recent mortar that might have been applied during tuck pointing” he collected mortar that had carbonated centuries after the original construction of the Tower. We know the 1680 C-14 date Jungner got for the mortar is wrong because Governor Benedict Arnold wrote about, “my old stone wind mill” in his will in 1677, a date conveniently missing from the article. What Jungner dated was when the mortar carbonated, not when it was applied during the original construction which was almost three centuries earlier.

Quite frankly, this was such a dumb mistake it leads me to believe it wasn’t a mistake.

I saw in your book "Akhenaten to the founding fathers" that you believe Akhenaten was either the biblical Moses or the brother of Moses, and he and his followers were driven out of Egypt. How can this be when Moses was just mythical figure and the Exodus didn't really happen in the real world, which is what you say about bible stories, "It didn't happen in the real world"?

    1. Ferdinand,

The followers of Akhenaten’s new religion of Monotheistic Dualism were driven out of Amarna and eventually ended up in the Middle East. Like Sigmund Freud and many other researchers, I believe this is what the Exodus story refers to.

In my view, the Bible, like Masonic ritual is part allegory and part real historical truth, but it’s often hard to determine which is which. The Moses Exodus story is shrouded in allegory; much of which is surely exaggerated. However, that a group of people left Egypt due to ideological persecution at the end of Akhenaten’s reign is certainly true.

  28. Scott,

I can't wait to learn more about Sir Humphrey Dennison. If, you've identified the builder...that's a "BIG DEAL"!!! Be prepared for a possible inundation of questions from myself. The mystery surrounding the Newport Tower has been one of my bucket list of puzzles to be solved. I hope to check this one off soon.

It's very difficult to discern which biblical stories are "history" or allegory, and most often a combination of both. The late Dr. Feather believed Abraham met with either Akhenaten's father, or grandfather, if memory serves me correct. I've always found it interesting about this story, Abraham passes off his wife as his sister. Was this a wife swap??? Did Abraham's wife actually bear the child of the Egyptian King??? Did Abraham, the High Chaldean Astronomer/Priest sire some children with princesses of the Egyptian royal court??? If the child Sarah gave birth wasn't Abraham's, and was in fact an Egyptian prince...could this be what is meant by the birth of the Jewish people. I've read about kings who raise each other's son to promote peace, and make alliances. From what I understand, sometimes wives were swapped, and sometimes daughters.

Now for what I came to talk about. There are a few puzzle pieces which keep repeatedly popping up, and I haven't put my finger upon their importance yet.

1- The bulbous-headed people and not due to cranial deformation. Akhenaten was certainly one. The skulls found on this side of the Atlantic are genetically closest to people living in modern day Finland, from what I understand.

    2. Ptolemy- This man's name has popped up way too many times to be a coincidence. For the longest time, I thought it had to do with knowledge saved from his library. I then heard an intriguing statement made by Dr. Zahi Hawass..."The Eagle is the symbol for the family of Ptolemy".

    3. Orion's Belt- Always, and I mean ALWAYS concealed beneath layers of allegory and symbolism. I understand the role these stars play in the Winter Solstice allegorical tales, BUT, there appears to be something else I'm missing. In what I believe to be the most recent allegorical tale regarding these stars, "Jack and the Beanstalk" one can pick out some details. Jack plants 3 "Magic Beans"/Orions Belt. Jack also chops down the Beanstalk/Tree of Life, bringing the Giant/Orion crashing to the Earth/As Above, So Below. 29. Question on the 90-foot stone. Early references to the stone mention the inscription being undecipherable. Earliest "translations" give "ten feet below two million pounds are burried". The inscription with the Kempton symbols pops up later, and, by substitution, is translated as "forty feet below...". If you consider the currently available inscription, there's no way you can erroneously translate it to "ten feet below...", yet the rest of the translation is identical. Any ideas, comments on an explanation for this?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am not sure I follow the comment. If you are saying that the "90 foot stone" can NOT say "ten feet below", then I completely agree. It is really just a matter of using a single substitution table that I developed using both the "90 foot stone" and the "La Formule" document.

  31. Scott, in regards to the code is it possible the 90ft stone is a fake and that the code was also made fraudulent based on what is on the stone? The 90ft stone hasn't been found and cannot be produced. Its original appearance in newspapers claim it was in english and then symbols. how could that be justified as real? Thank you sir.

When I was on Oak Island the first time I made an effort to find the “90-foot stone” with the intention of trying learn something about the age/weathering of the inscription. I came away skeptical it ever existed. I could be wrong, but I’m not going to spend any time trying to decipher something unless I can get my eyeballs on the actual artifact.

Wasting time speculating on what people think might be there doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

  32. Kind of sounds like the Beale Treasure and Rennes le Chateau all mixed into another "mystery" to be solved using biblical and masonic concepts to me;all based on bogus documents designed to do exactly what they are doing to you. Relying on copies of documents and maps that no longer exist is a joke in my opinion. Good luck with this one Scott. You are digging yourself deeper and deeper into a pit of second level initiatory dead ends. There are already several valid debunks of all of your ideas that are presently being ignored by you and the media at large. If anyone ever pays attention to these more practical views it may mean no more tv shows for you. You are simply trying to find things that will work on shows like yours and the History Channel regardless. For one to believe you takes many leaps of faith with no evidence to back up what you are saying for the 'in between' bits. A copy of a copy of map that does not exist and you are really taking this seriously? I plotted all of your sites on Google Earth and was rewarded with a zig zag line that has no accuracy or basis in fact. The Newport Tower and N.stone related to the others for example does not comprise anything near an alignment. I suggest you study the history of navigation better. There is a large difference between nautical and terrestrial orientation techniques there. Most of your sites are close enough together that a line of sight method could have been used to align them. Alas they are not in a straight line at all.......

This is a classic example of debunker troll commentary. First off, it’s submitted anonymously so there can be no accountability for the silly nonsense in this comment. Second, you are completely making things up as you go along. No one has debunked any of the work I’ve done except a feeble attempt by two academics using fraud. Many have expressed negative opinions which is certainly their right, but nothing of any merit that has any basis in fact. And lastly, you make claims that are flat-out false. For example, I’ve visited every artifact and site listed on this line and not one of them can be connected using “line of sight.”

You need to go back and check your facts, not your contrary beliefs; the line is beautifully straight whether you want to believe it or not.

  40. After watching every episode of Oak Island, I feel there are several important questions that aren't being asked....
    1. Why would someone go through the intensive process of digging down 180+ feet when it seems that nearly any depth from 20-60 feet would do just as well for hiding a treasure that nobody else knew about at the time?
    2. Why would people bury a treasure and leave several clues scattered in several sources for unknown people? Doesn't logic dictate that those who buried the treasure would want to go back for it themselves?
    3. Why give any time to these "researchers" when their theories are far fetched at best and when their time is limited and very expensive? Lost works of Shakespeare? Come on.
    4. Why do people who have contributed far less in terms of financial investment seem to have an equal say in current and future excavations as those who have contributed a considerable amount more?

  41. A few nights ago the Curse of Oak Island show brought on an expert who presented his decode of the La Formule page. It turns out that his decode is exactly the same as the one I gave above except for two characters. He incorrectly shows the first two characters on line 3 as N R, when they should be I Q. Since he gets these characters right in other places I think this was just a clerical error. So, I am going to say that we actually totally agree on the decode of the individual characters. Since the decode gives us French text with some missing letters we have more work to get what we want - completed English text. Unsurprisingly, it appears that my final English text differs somewhat from what I heard on the show. I think my final English text is more accurate, but I would agree that this is debatable.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jonathon,

Although I am on the same page as both u, for ur questions, and with Scott for his answers, I believe (and follow me into the corn on this one) that they are digging, let's say over the correct spot, but that doesn't mean that how it was put there. It's a movie, but let's take Goonies, for example. The kids go through a bunch of puzzles and mazes and traps to get to the treasure, but at the end of the day, the ship ends up leaving through a cave at the end of the island. So in the interest of believing it's actually still there, the templars, or whomever placed one of the 19 things they say is there, could have easily entered through "the hatch" or some sort of cave system that was around 400 years ago. The sonar and divers have all proven there are channels in and out of each of the chambers, so who knows what kind of natural or man made caverns are down there. Now on the other side of the coin, 200ft is ridiculously far down, and I highly doubt anybody back then was digging that far, so it would have to be a cave that channeled down and ended up that deep. We have seen cave systems in vietnam and in other remote places go miles into the ground, so although unlikely, it is possible oak island has a few secrets to share.
I find the swamp to be the most interesting point...... the theory that they purposely grounded a ship there when the swamp flowed straight through is viable. It would a lot easier to damm up an area the size of the swamp than build an intricate maze and trap system 200 ft under the ground. Problem is they have dug around the swamp and besides the odd piece of wood, have not come up with a ship. I can't imagine the templars having enough sediment to bury a ship deep enough that nobody would come across it digging in there.
Anywho, still hoping for anything to be answered on that show, or any investigation show for that matter. I'm looking at you too Scott, let's shut the archeological world up and validate ur theories, find something cool.
I'd also love an autographed copy of ur book, let's see about making that happen, I'll trade you for a bottle of Canadian Club Rye.

  43. Scott Wolter, I think that the work that you are doing is brilliant and critical to unearthing the real history of America. I discovered you less than a week ago after Jovan Pulitzer(that I also discovered less than a week ago)name dropped you. I am not well versed in extensive history. I would like to hear your thoughts on a simple hypothesis. Anytime that the Ark of the Covenant was threatened, it was moved to a more secure location. America has never been inhabited by a foreign insurgency since its inception. There are many heavily fortified locations worldwide very capable of defending the most sought after artifacts/relics in the world. I know of one specific location that has been referred to as the largest safety deposit box in the world considering that America went off of the gold standard several decades ago. It has one of the most advanced security systems known to man and flanked by a military base. The Ark could be concealed in many places in the world, few, the Templar Knights would have considered adequate. Do I want to calculate where the Ark of the Covenant resides, Hell no! Not for all of the gold in Fort Knox.

    4. First of all,

      Brad,

The U.S has been inhabited by a foreign insurgency since its inception. Please read up on the War of 1812.

      Secondly, Scott,

The U.S Federal Government has and is hiding the Ark of the Covenant? Can you please explain why you think they wouldn't share that information with the world and allow researchers to study it? Also, the Federal Government has employed hundreds of thousands of people since its inception, with political parties sharing power back and forth, with 45 different presidents. You don't think someone would have said anything about them holding one of the most famous artifacts in the world? You're sounding a lot like "Moon landing was fake".

      Delete
    5. Anonymous,

There's a reason why I say the U.S. Government has the Ark, but I'm not prepared to explain my reasoning now. And as far as knowledge about it being leaked by somebody from within, they didn't need to because it's already out there right in front of everyone.

Remember the old phrase "Hidden in plain sight?"

BTW, my Canadian grandfather didn't believe we landed on the moon and swore to his grave that is was all "Hollywood." I don't share the same view as he did.

      Delete
    6. So let me try to understand what you are hypothesizing;

You say the Ark is in the U.S. You say the U.S Government has the Ark. You say its location is irrelevant because the U.S Government will never allow anyone to see it. Then in your next statement you say the Ark is hiding in plain sight? So they won't allow anyone to see it, yet its hiding in plain sight, and its location is irrelevant?

Or did you mean that the clues that the U.S Government has the Ark are out there right in front of everyone? That brings me back to the statement above, where a government employee would have definitely noticed they had the Ark.

And let's come to another point; if the U.S Government has kept the Ark safe and hidden for 250 years, that means the British Government before US independence knew about the Ark being in America and also kept is secret. You can see this is getting a little ridiculous, lots of governments, conflicting interests, thousands of people all knowing about it but no one saying anything. Come on...

      Delete
    7. Anonymous,

I believe they left obvious clues they have the ARK, but I could be wrong of course. I’ll be sharing this evidence in my next book.

Your overthinking it and being a little presumptuous about the Brits. Why would the British Government know anything about the Ark before U.S. Independence?

I realize your fishing for more info, but you’re not going to get it now; sorry.

  44. It's funny (rather sad actually) that no matter what is said, or found, it will never be believed. Scott is right (to an extent) it really doesn't matter...... God himself (if there was one) could float down on a cloud and tell us the meaning of life and there would be the same 50/50 split of its legitimacy. Humanity has spent its existence lying, stealing, hiding, covering up, and pretty much doing everything in its power to conceal the truth about things that even when the truth comes out, nobody believes it. So regardless if the gov't or the Vatican or a secret society unveiled the ark, there would a battle royal of opinions from every pair of lips on the planet and nothing would get resolved.
But as long as I'm here I might as well admit, I personally don't even believe there is an ark (as history describes it) chances are it was destroyed in the many holy wars. And in the slight chance there is one and it survived human history, it's buried in the Vatican basement where the rest of the relics that debunk religion are kept.

Still waiting on that trade Scott ;-)

  47. I like the code interpretation. Its fascinating if reliably authentic. But as a geologist, I agree with those who suspect distances cited are more lateral than vertical. Thinking of technology of the era and a little after, old Cornish mines hit depths of 3000 feet, so a 1000 feet depth would not be unheard of. Water management would have been the show-stopping issue (just like it is for the team today). The water table (largely unreferenced in the show to date) would have been encountered and further mining/excavation limited unless there were substantial pumping equipment, for which we have not seen archaeological evidence to date. And I'm not sure that even the best Cornish pumps that came a few centuries after would have been able to keep up with groundwater inflow in a glacial moraine setting. So a shallow lateral would make more sense to me, if there was bed rock for it to exist in above the water table. We need a hydrogeologist to overlay lithologic and hydrologic information on the code to see if its even workable.

    Cheers!

  49. why was the unit of measure "feet" pied used instead of metric or some other archaic unit of measure? Perhaps pied meant "steps" instead of a measurement?

    ReplyDelete
  50. One of the latest theories is that nolans cross gives measurements that when divided by ten ( a tithe) tell you to go 86 feet. down then 36 feet to the side. This sort of ties in with the 90 foot stone and La Formulae both of which suggest going off to the side to find a chamber once you reach the stone and not to keep digging further down. Even some translations of the stone inscription think it says forty feet, but probably it means forty feet to the side not below. It sort of makes sense that the stone was laced at 86-90 feet to tell anyone who got there where to go next. It seems so unlikely a message would be placed on the stone that simply said carry on going down. So there you have it. Just work out what direction and how far to go off at from 90 feet down and you will find the chamber. And I don't believe the flood tunnel theory. I think the original builders probably knew if they went any deeper than 90 feet they would be at sea level and would encounter water so they simply decided 90 feet was as deep as they could go. Quite simple really. A Laing, Scotland.

  55. In the early months of 2019, I became fascinated with some of the finds on Oak Island, and some supposed real -- but not currently observable -- "lost or missing" evidence, e.g. the so-called 90 Foot Stone (hereafter the 90FS). I too thought the stone and "la formulae" might have some overlap. But after much work, I decided that the purported symbology of the stone (which of course has no image in the public domain today) has a much higher probability of accuracy. For several reasons: from earlier genetic genealogical research, I have demonstrated on separate DNA forums that the peoples inhabiting Morocco and nearby areas of Northwestern Africa are descended from a small group that scientific research shows began in the area of present day Somalia and Sudan. Known in Biblical times as the Numidean Empire. King David and Queen of Bathsheeba (or perhaps also Barsheeba?). And we know there were Numideans in Hannibals cavalry, and there were Numideans who supposed went to the Temple Mount in Jerusalem after learning the Templars had succeeded in reclaiming the City.

The stone with its purported symbols -- and I have to hedge here because rumor has it there is no tracing, rubbing or photograph of the original -- was drawn by an artist who one source said referred to a old pirate treasure book or booklet for his info.

Well, regardless of where that artist found it, those symbols are recognizable as from at least one dialect of Tamashaq, or its slightly transformed later Tamazight. But a note of caution: it is NOT neo-Tamazight, developed by "committee" about the middle of the 20th Century. neo-Tamazight is a "Latin" style alphabet incorporating vowels and intented to be used as a written language. Tamasight/Tamazight and its pre-cursor Tamashaq/Tamasheq are a form of "writing" that uses few, if any vowels are ligatures. It is typically seen in "rock art" in a number of places in North Africa. It is said that it was not known to Westerners until the 17th century.

I am working on my own translation of what the supposed writing conveys, but with no carved vowels and reading that could be left-to-right, right-to-left, bottom-to-top, and top-to-bottom we have an incredible scope of complexity.

And it has only been studied and somewhat documents by a handful of French scholars, because the North African countries where these "signs" are used were in the French empire for much of the 19th and much of the 20th centuries. And there are no "dictionaries" for the simple reason that this was not really a language intended to be written. Rather it was intended for inscribing. (But not in the same mode as ancient petroglyphs or hieroglyphics.) Each "sigh" represents a sound "bite" and can thus be transliterated into rather long words in some cases, two-three "letter" syllables.

It is NOT a cipher, such as used in substitution. It is translatable, and from my research to date, can be interpreted by reading either left to right or right to left. Although the pre-19th century rock art -- which present-day Berbers are unable to read but can recognize some of the symbols used -- tended to typically flow from right to left, and bottom to top. Oddly to Westerners perhaps, there was no set of rules for directionality. And it varied to some extent by age group and by gender. Definitely not a Western-style language, nor Arabic, but a language which predates 330 BCE at a minimum. Those who try to force square pegs into round holes with this stone's purported message -- which appears to be not faked or gobbled gook and so far, IMHO is plausible and are real symbols -- though the efforts are sometimes commendable for technique, are still liable to falter completely in the transliteration.

What is the origin of the "La Formule"document?
If the "La Formule" document is orientated correctly then the common orientation of the 90ft stone image may be inverted.
Look at the Cross of Saint Peter on the "La Formule" document and compare it to the corresponding character on the 90ft stone.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Scott, I've studied this and of the opinion that this is written in probably the very earliest form of Berber Latin from around the Moroccan region called Tifinagh or Tifany. What sticks out to me then as well, is what they found in the DNA samples of the two bones found in the spoils. It seems there were people involved in this endeavor from regions of the world you wouldn't find together normally. So I would throw out the ideas that this was done by a certain military group (Britain/France). With this code, I lean even more towards the Knights Templar, as they would have had with them people's from many places in and around the Mediterranean. There are differences in the looks of this alphabet from different times and tribes, that could explain it not being recognized outright. What better way to code something than if you used an alphabet like this.

That show is all about keep it going for the advertising revenue. And did he know Jim McInnes? Whether or not the treasure is there makes no difference to me. Why do the hidden documents La Formule and the Oak Island map exist? That's the truth I'm after.

    1. Bill Jackson was not a hoaxer based on the research into him that I have done. He was a physician and worked for a company that did intelligence work for our government's military. He had access to information us everyday citizens do not have. That said, I have seen no information that Jackson, who died in 2000, ever knew Jim McInnes. I highly doubt it.

I have seen no evidence the so-called "90 foot stone" ever existed. I visited Oak Island and spent two days with Dan Blankenship and concluded he was a colorful story-teller but short on facts.

I have no idea if the La Formula document is legit, but I know the Oak Island map was created by Jackson as part of a novel he never finished due to failing health. What gave him the inspiration or what he may have used to create it unknown.

  62. Although, I claim fair use for research, I would like to reprint Jerry Lutgen's interpretation of the LaFormule cipher and credit him and this blog post in my book. Please contact me at my Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/612777356774128

  63. Total Junk, as you are using a 1960's or later Book. The 1951 Edition of True Tales of Buried Treasure Has NO Triangle with a Line through it Nor an Arrow. The Symbols are The Tifinagh Alphabet. ⵎⵏ ⵓ ⵓⴰ ⵀ ⵜ ⵜⵓⴱ ⴰ ⵙ ⵎⵏ ⵝ ⴶ ⴱ ⵝ ⴶ ⵓⴰ ⵎ ⵎ ⵓⴰ ⵜⵜ ⴶ ⵎⵏ ⴳ ⵎⵏ ⴶ ⵎ ⵓ ⵜ ⴳ ⵓ ⵓ ⵠ ⴽ ⴳ ⵀ ⴶ ⵏⵏ Yet it is Not Berber, so Junk.

  64. The Knight Templar’s learned from other religious organizations how to create stone cipher maps. They were created by the use of cipher text in combination with an evolving symbolic cipher symbol language that is quite complicated. You have to become familiar with the meaning of each symbol and how it can be used in order to define what it truly means. The teachings of ciphering were kept secret and only those who knew were capable of ciphering a stone map. Each cipher map is based on their respective location and in order to decipher it you must have the knowledge required to start. It will reveal instructions as to what to do and you must follow them in order to locate the treasure. The instructions will lead you from one clue to the next until you realize what it all means. A simple pirate map with descriptive understanding instructions is not a Templar’s map. If want to learn more let me know?

    1. Can we start with you identifying yourself, so we know who we are dealing with? Thanks!

  65. You can find me on treasure net website, Areasgray treasure hunting community, or google Ramiro Valdez treasure hunter! So you can do your research to find out who your dealing with, which is the proper think to do and respectable!

Great story, Daniel McGinnis’s treasure hunting skills kicked and helped identify one of the mysteries of the legend. But working against a Templar treasure cipher map is not recommended unless you are prepared for the unknown based on your preparation which start with identifying and knowing how to read a cipher map? And because he wasn’t aware of such a map, he and fellow friends that came looking for the treasure were destined to fail. Having an Oak island series back then would have helped them recover most of their lost profits. Either way, because of their failure to locate the needed information they were destined to never locate the treasure. Today the two brothers have capitalized on making profits while searching for the treasure giving themselves more time to find what they are looking for. They also achieved the unthinkable which was securing the two cipher maps that can lead them to the mystery location. But they are setting themselves up for failure by not knowing how to read cipher maps as has been proven on each episode. You tell them that I will be ready to help them with the cipher as soon as they figure out that they are at a lost

    1. Ramiro, While I appreciate your expertise and willingness to help, the cipher in question has already been decoded and the message revealed. This information, and a whole lot more, will be revealed in Don Ruh and my new book, "Oak Island, Knights Templar and the Holy Grail: Secrets of the Underground Project Revealed." The book is scheduled for release around March 1st.

  66. I be looking forward to it since I’ve already decipher the first cipher and explained that oak island was in fact the chosen island for their second cipher map. The second one not as easy as the first one, so i doubt that you have the experience to decipher the map to the specific location of the treasure. But I have nothing but time, so go a head and explain it in your book?
