Reminiscing About the "Geologic Dream Team"

One of the good things about the Coronavirus 19 quarantine is it has created a lot of free time for writing my next book.  It has also created time to do a little rearranging of my photo files and I decided to share some unpublished photos of the geologists who provided commentary, suggestions and later academic peer  review, when I first began my investigation in the geology of the Kensington Rune Stone in 2000.  When the artifact first came into the American Petrographic Services Inc. lab in July of 2000, I had never heard of the artifact before but quickly got up to speed on it's history.

Since I had been referred by my former geology professors at the University of Minnesota-Duluth to do this work for the Runestone Museum on Alexandria, Minnesota, it only seemed appropriate to invite them in for a cursory look and to pick their brains for ideas on how to approach the investigation.  I already had a number of ideas and wanted to run them by my professors for their input.  On July 14, 2000, the six professors invited showed up along with then liaison for the Runestone Museum, Barry Hanson.  Professor's Emeritus, Dr. John Green, Dr. Richard Ojakangas, and my former adviser, Dr. Charles L. Matsch drove down together from Duluth and Dr. Ken Harris, Dr. Robert Johnson and Professor Emeritus, Dr. Paul Wieblen from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

The professors spent about 4 hours examining the geological features of the stone and the inscription offering comments and ideas of what might be interesting to look at more closely at during my examination and testing of the artifact.  At one point when we turned the stone over to look at the deep glacial striations and scratches on the back side, it was Dr. Paul Wieblen who first noticed the white-colored, branching lineations.  He pointed to the marks and said, "These features kind of look like roots."  I would eventually conclude they indeed were made by the very same roots of the tree under which Olof Ohman discovered the stone.

The "Geologic Dream Team" was extremely helpful and Dr. Richard Ojakangas, one of the top sedimentary petrologists in the world, offered to perform a mineralogical point count on one of the thin sections we made from the core sample taken from the back side of the artifact.  His point counts and my points counts were pretty much the same and we agreed the original slab of stone was a meta-graywacke that originated from the Animikie Basin in east-central Minnesota of Paleoproterozoic Age (1.85 to 2.1 billion years ago).

Upon completing my initial report, Dr's Green, Matsch and Ojakangas provided written peer reviews of my geological findings along with Professor Emeritus G.B. Morey, and geologist, Terry Swor.  All found the report to be accurate and thorough.  Looking back after these twenty years I want to thank all of these accomplished geologists for sharing their geological expertise and offering suggestions as well as their support.  It was Dr. Ojakangas' work and vast experience that led to the conclusion the rock was indigenous to Minnesota and not brought along by the Kensington party from the East Coast or Europe.  I remember Dick Ojakangas once told me a colleague said to him, "If you help Scott with the Kensington Rune Stone it could damage your reputation."  Dick said he smiled at him and said, "Thanks, but I'll take my chances."

It was the geological weathering aspects of the inscription and split side that told me they were at least 200 years old from the day Olof pulled it from the ground in 1898.  This made a late Nineteenth Century hoax impossible and therefore, it had to be an authentic artifact.  The hard science speaks just as loud today as it did then.  It's time the world accepted this amazing stone for the vitally important historical artifacts that it is.

Geologist, Scott Wolter looks at a computer monitor with a magnified image on the split side of the Kensington Rune Stone in July of 2000.

Dr. Paul Wieblen points to the white lineations on the back side of the Kensington Rune Stone and was the first to say they looked like markings left by roots.  L to R, Barry Hanson, Dr. Richard Ojakangas (with camera), Dr. Robert Johnson (behind Wieblen), Dr. John Green and Dr. Charles L. Matsch (bending over in front) look on as Wieblen explains the root leaching.

L to R, Dr. Charles L. Matsch, Dr. Richard Ojakangas, and Dr. John Green examine the split side of the Kensington Rune Stone as then Runestone Museum Director, LuAnn Patton looks on.

L to R, Dr. Charles L. Matsch, Scott Wolter, Dr. John Green, and Barry Hanson look on as Dr. Richard Ojakangas looks a feature on the split side of the Kensington Rune Stone through a petrographic microscope.

Dr. Richard Ojakangas gets up close and personal with a carved character on the face side of the Kensington Rune Stone.

The Kensington Rune Stone was examined by a team of noted geologists at the American Petrographic Services Laboratory on July 14, 2000.  L to R, Dr. Richard Ojakangas (kneeling), Dr. John Green, Dr. Ken Harris, Gerard Moulzolf, Scott Wolter, Dr. Charles L. Matsch, Barry Hanson, Dr. Robert Johnson, and Dr. Paul Wieblen (kneeling).

    1. I was looking for a place to share input here and April 10th seemed to be a good place, being it my birthday 1964. First I'll apologize for my scattered thoughts, men don't seem to allow commentary from women who aren't a part of the society. That's unfortunate however, I need to share a point of view which I've never seen or heard anyone make. As a Christian who has conquered "traditional" church practices, I have an understanding of "Holy Grail" which I've not seen before. I've experienced sightings of Christ and sightings of Angels way beyond belief of anyone I've conversed. I believe the "Holy Grail" can be interpreted on a level as wherever honest Christian witnesses a sighting. In pertinence to this particular stone, I am wondering about the conversation and use of the word, "core." Sometimes when we are very close to our research, it takes an outsider's observance to see an obvious. Is it possible that this stone may be an original part of the earth's core? Did anyone follow the arc of the stone to measure the size of the circle and compare the size of the circle in relation to the Giza pyramid? The Giza Pyramid obviously has constant information which connects it to the larger universe, therefore I am always seeing the GP as an origin of the earth. I should state here that I believe the pyramid is part of the earth as in it emerged from the earth or the earth "grew" from the pyramid. I could go into how I can formulate such a theory as a Christian while rejecting accusations of heresy, however its too detailed and off immediate topic. I've also always believed in evolution as a real theoretical explanation of evolution and always believed dinosaurs existed and still do. When at first glance I looked at this photo my attention was drawn to the curve of the stone, which started me on the comparative relationship to the pyramid and recent published comparisons of GP to stellar alignments and other alignments on earth which if I'm remembering correctly, there seemed to be one you, Scott, have talked about. I think it was one to Stonehenge. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I watch your show frequently however I'm not as avid at notetaking and following as I could be for my interest level in the topic of the stones and the Templars.

  2. Unfortunately a vastly larger global dream team of geologists, historians, linguists, archaeologists, etc. aren't buying it. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for acceptance when your selling point is a few geologists commenting on what is actually archaeological/historical/linguistic material.

    1. Unknown,

First, please identify yourself in future comments thanks.

Second, can you be more specific as to whom exactly you are referring to in the “global dream team” who have done anything credible with regard to the KRS? Historians, archaeologists and linguists to date have offered nothing other than arguing their unsupported beliefs. Professor Henrick Williams being the most notable who has a known history of being personally hostile to the artifact. His unsupported opinions are irrelevant.

Further, there isn’t one competent geologist on the planet who has found anything to refute my peer-reviewed geological findings, or the work of Newton H. Winchell in 1909-10 who also found the weathering of the inscription to be old and the artifact genuine.

If you want to argue facts to support your position then present them. If all you’re doing is arguing your beliefs, then please consult a priest. 😉

  3. Your own "Dream team" geologist Dr. Paul Wieblen could not find any biotite at all on the KRS when he studied the 127 electron microprobe traverses from your core sample, both interior and exterior.

Poof goes your dating of the KRS.

Could you please make Professer Wieblen's peer review available ?

    I thought not.

Wieblen did his traverses ONLY on the top surface of the core sample where the biotite had completely weathered away you idiot. I stood there and watched him perform the analysis. Are you suggesting that Dr. Richard Ojakangas, who like me, found 5% of the KRS graywacke was comprised of biotite, can ‘t identify the mineral?

Sorry “Bobby”, but go crawl back under the rock you came from and stop bothering me and the readers of this blog with made up crap.

If so, my question to you is regarding sharing the entirety of the truth of things so regarded to Freemasonry, and the Knights Templar, with those who are uninitiated.
To put it simply; are you able to, and do you, freely share the entirety of your knowledge of the truth of matters regarding the Freemasons and Knights Templar, with the uninitiated general public?

Yes, I am so taken and accepted by brethren and fellows. However, while I am very open about many aspects of the fraternity the uninitiated rarely hear about, I do not, and will not, ever, reveal certain secrets I have taken a vow not to share. In total, these things are very few and not of earth shattering importance. Nevertheless, a promise to keep something secret, no matter how significant, is a promise that must be and will be kept.

  8. I have started reading your newest book. Raised questions. How long KRS buried and how burying affected weathering. When was the Masonic ritual with the KRS number sequence created or revised. Old or Oldest Masonic ritual book with the KRS number sequence existing before KRS discovery? Quoted? KRS created after the Larson Rune documents existed? I will probably have more questions as I continue to read your book. Tom

    1. Tom,

The mechanical weathering aspects of the KRS inscription (wetting-drying, freeze-thaw cycling) when buried less than a foot in the ground is discussed in detail in my book, The Kensington Rune Stone: Compelling New Evidence, pages 33-47.

The cryptic code ritual is related to legend of Enoch which dates back to the first Temple period. This is discussed in detail in my new book; you may want to start there.

The KRS was not created after the Larsson Rune Rows. The weathering of the KRS is centuries old making any connection to the Larsson Rune Rows (1883/1885) impossible.

I have come across a reference to Deneb in Cygnus which seems to indicate Templar symbolism. I am trying to pinpoint which mythology they were using. Deneb was called "The Second Rider". Brings to my mind the image of two men on one horse.
IF...the two riders are on a white horse...Would that make the two riders Death and Hell?

I am mentioning this because these people apparently used Cygnus aka the Northern Cross to navigate to America. Specifically Vinland. I could say more but, I don't wish to write a book on your blog and I'm not at liberty to discuss certain things. I can state with certainty...These people concealed information using the many mythologies surrounding Cygnus. From Osiris on through King Arthur. I do need help pinning down the "Second Rider".

I wonder how long it took for news of the put-down to reach the Vinland colony??? Did the contingent of Knights rebel against the Roman Catholic Bishop of Vinland???

They also built pyramids and I know where at least 3 are - there is also a fairly easy way to prove it. Please contact. 1. Wish i could help you, but not a researcher. Not surprised about a wall that you mentioned. Rockwall Texas was named for a row of rocks that resembled a wall. Many people thought it was build by maybe indiginous peoples. There was even a show about it, but I think it was determined to me a natural formation. Near Malakoff,Texas, which i believe is in the same area, or not that far, some settlers found a stone carved with human features. Think they found more than one. And speaking of pyramids, i recall driving with my dad ,think towards Bandera, and he made the remark this one hill looked like a pyramid. Was it don't know, and he commented on the shape because of what it looked like. I think there is a lot more to American history than people let on.

  14. Scott,

I do know the "Second Rider" comes from Arabic.

"Traditionally, Delta Cygni had no proper name.[13] It belonged to the Arabic asterism al-Fawāris (الفوارس), meaning "the Riders" in indigenous Arabic,[15] together with Zeta, Epsilon, and Gamma Cygni, the transverse of the Northern Cross."

Which celestial horse are these two riders riding? I am unfamiliar with this Arabic star lore.

IF... GREAT BIG IF...The Two Riders of Arabic lore have the SAME identity as the Two Riders on one horse from Templar symbolism...This could be more proof of Islamic influence upon the CATHOLIC Templar Order.

Quick question, did y’all take borings from various rocks along the length of the exposed wall? The picture they showed looked like the borings were only taken from a few stones that were close together along the wall. Just curious. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with your viewers. Yes, we took samples from various locations along the outcrop in several blocks of stone. What you saw in the show were multiple holes we drilled in the same area for the cameras. We shot close-ups and wide shot and drilled in the same area to get them. The actual samples were taken from several different blocks.

It's a good question, but taking several samples for testing in the same block would have been a dumb idea!

  16. Agreed. I was concerned seeing the multiple borings in the same area. I know when I am reviewing Geotechnical Investigation reports for construction projects, I need to verify that the various borings were taken at different areas throughout the entire site. I guess the cameras fooled me. Thanks for getting back to me and putting my mind at ease. Take care!

Glad you enjoyed it. I'm starting to reveal more information and not worry as much about hurting the feelings of people who support me with differing political views. We have a huge decision to make in November and our country that has wandered too far down the wrong path to the point where to stay silent is irresponsible in my view.

As a Freemason who honors and loves this country my departed brethren founded 244 years ago, it is important for people to understand the truth about how and why they risked their lives so we could enjoy the freedoms too many people today take for granted in this country. This is NOT a Christian country, we have freedom of religion or no religion. We fought the Revolution against a monarchy, a dictator, do people remember their history? We have separation of powers in our government for a reason!

Truth, honor, dignity, integrity, self sacrifice, and caring for your fellow man and woman. Those are the traits of the people who founded this country. Were they perfect? Of course not, but no one is. We have to ask ourselves what kind of character do we want in the leader of our country to guide out of the grave difficulties we face as a nation today?

To me, the answer is obvious...

The world's final truth is ready to be found and exposed for what it truly is.. religion, Jesus and his wife Mary and kids, the bloodlines that actually still exists to this day through the native Americans and others. I think the world is more then ready to handle the truth about everything..no more lies or beating around the bush about the truth..we all deserve to be free from this slavery from the government..it's not just black Live's matter..All Live's matter..no more control over mankind but instead I see a great future ahead of us..a even faster growing mankind then how we are now..no more currency, just straight up mankind working together to make sure everyone one is equal,a home, running water, food,etc.. everything is free because we work together to help one another to advance and maintain civilization, we can all help Famers to produce crops, etc. fuel, electricity education can all continue also.we already process all of these skills needed and knowage to pass down and teach the younger generations to keep thriving..the greatest minds coming together as one to advance us into the future even further..a completely free world as how it was suppose to be.. please don't wait any longer..tell them all the truth..the world deserves to be free..we all do especially the native Americans that our government and white people lied and stole there land, raped and murdered them in cold blood and the list goes on and I think it's time we acknowledge it for what happened to them..we are all humans and make mistakes but the time has come to rise up and put an end to this.. please solve this..u are to far in to turn back same as Mr.Mann..its your destiny to free us.thanks

Why would he tell everyone the location, I don't understand that.. does he not feel worthy enough to enlighten and free mankind with it.. something to that greatness can not be left for anyone to just grab..it would not be logical to do so, I can't see Mr.Mann just giving out the location to the world like that..if the government had this they would be able to destroy all the evidence and mankind will never be free and mankind will continue on as slave's to the governments and the rich will continue to get richer as the poor stay poor..mankind deserves better then this and it's time we be set free..no more control over people but instead something far more greater than mankind could ever imagine, a world that works together as one instead, no more currency, just mankind working together to thrive forward, all communities working together to support each other with your everyday needs, mankind already has a great knowledge in technology to push us forward and it's going to cost mankind absolutely nothing but dedication, knowledge, inspiration and will to do so.. not a single person on this planet needs to starve ever nor go without shelter..we have brilliant men like Bill Gates and Elon Musk that could push us so much further if there was no such thing as cost..Cost and the Government is what's stopping mankind from thriving and holding us back..the truth with the evidence needs to come forth very strategically if you want to free mankind, not like this.. I'm not a Mason nor a Templar but I am driven by this great force that is coming when Man will have make a choice between Life and Freedom over blinded slavery and ultimately death for the rest of mankind and I can't let this happen to mankind.. humans are definitely not perfect..no one is, no one man is greater then any other man but the government uses currency to divide mankind between rich and the poor, the strong and the weak instead of helping eachother out..this is why it's got to stop now.. with covid going on which I find very ironically that it's only killing the old and weak if noone has noticed, the world is at a stand still whether by fluke or deliberate the time has come..the Templars have one last stand and rise to make and they owe it to everyone on this planet whether they are ready or not..I know exactly what to do with it and no matter how much gold or silver or whatever precious metals lies beneath it is worthless in the right hands..it's the knowledge of the scripts or scrolls is what's gonna set mankind Free. the Mason's and Natives are now going to have to come forward to verify this. You alone Mr Wolter can achieve this if you feel worthy enough to set us free..I feel your hardwork and dedication grants you this..I would gladly set mankind Free in a heartbeat..I may not know the location but I do know what needs to be done for mankind..anyways keep up the good fight and don't give up..thanks The enlightened one!

  24. Regarding the America Unearthed episode where you visit Isle Royale & speculate about the missing copper being exported for bronze-making; surely you've been to the little museum at Grand Marais with the niche item(s) of "spikes used by Egyptians in their search for metals & jewels"
That's cryptically all I recall of that.

    1. Lundworks,

I was just in Grand Marais twice in the past month; I'll check that out the next time I'm there.

    2. Also, check out if you agree that there's a Paleolithic fishtrap at the Grand Portage River mouth,to the left/ north exactly like the Yellowstone one. 2012 record low lake levels made it stand out. Decimated by massive Lake Superior wave action, much larger boulders, but still obviously a double ring arc. Floatplane work expense might be necessary.

If you mean the Arc of the Covenant, then no, it has not. But the secret of the Arc isn't where it is, but how to make one...

  29. What would be the purpose of the knowledge of how to make one? I thought that it was about the contents inside of it is it not?

I suggest you read Lawrence Gardner's book, "Lost Secrets if the Sacred Ark: Amazing Revelations of the Incredible Power of Gold."

    5. I just took your advice.. that's crazy and unbelievable, I would think it would be fair to say that possibly this is the fountain of youth type knowledge that we have heard about. Living longer and healthier and fights Cancers and other diseases and many other things in this nature and on top of that allow you to split into other realms is quite extraordinary but I do believe that it definitely is true that the Ark was just an electrode conductor for producing the white powdered gold..Have you or do you use the white powdered gold? Alchemy is in existence for people and I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on it. Thanks

  30. Regarding root impressions; there's a Mid-century building a blick off 12/394 in Maple Plain where they stripped off 50 years of Ivy vine growth that left clear pathways of markations on the bricks.
The Ivy probably didn't grow for at least a decade after it was built, neither.

    1. Lundworks,

It's hard for me to comment on the exact cause of the vine pathways which may be due to something different than the root leaching on the KRS. However, it is a well established process of below grade tree roots leaching iron and magnesium elements from rock causing them to lighten areas they were in contact with.

Put your real name behind your comments or stop wasting your time.

  31. I have been interested in the KRS since a child. I had relative in Barrett, Hoffman and Kensington.

I attended a lecture on Norse Runes at the American Swedish Inst two times now. Both time disappointing, but many I talked with had stories and knew of possible artifacts. They were frustrated as to where to tell their stories.

I wonder if a central repository of such would be a help. At least information, real or imagined, could be cataloged in one place. Maybe the museum in Alex would be a good location.

There has to be more "stuff" than the KRS. The reach has to go beyond the KRS to help validate it. If the Norse were here, and I think they were and are, there has to be more evidence.

Currently re reading Dr, Johnson's book and my friend has another collection of books to read also.

Two summers ago I found a very faint carving on a rock in the BWCA. It seemed to be a pointer. Thanks, Lyn

    1. Lyn,

I suspect the lectures you attended were presented by Professor Henrik Williams who is known to be hostile toward authenticity of the KRS and arrogantly thinks only elements within the inscription can solve the mystery. This is ridiculous but he is typical of academics who think only they are the ones whose opinions matter.

If you want to know the truth about the KRS and the Templar's who created it as a land claim, I suggest you read mine and William Mann's books. The book I wrote with Richard Nielsen, "The Kensington Rune Stone: Compelling New Evidence" is a great place to start if you want to dive deep. Alan Butler is another great source as well as the book he co-authored with my wife, Janet, entitled, America: Nation of the Goddess.

      Good luck!

  32. Yes, it was after the Williams lecture that I met a number of very frustrated people, Many were saying, I have information what should I do with it; Who can I tell it to or show it to?

These are common people with information, I am just suggesting that this information should be gathered in a common place and in a respectable way. Some or all of what they have to say could be valuable. Somehow there should be a public invitation to make an input.

I've read most of the books including yours, good stuff all. I met Richard Nielsen, He very calmly and deliberately said to me, "The stone is real" I believe him, and you.

I am just thinking that there has to be more data points out there. They need to be harvested before they are lost forever. The stone is one very valuable data point. Again, I think there has to be more points out there.

Didn't take me long to figure out what Williams was / is about. Many academics want to sit in the office, sound important and collect a pay check. Never take any chances.

    1. Lyn,

I appreciate your comments and concerns. People contact me all the time with what they believe are artifacts, stone holes and sites they believe are related to the Kensington Stone and the Templars. Some are legitimate, but most are not.

Besides me, for many decades people have also contacted the Runestone Museum as has happened for many decades. People also contact the Minnesota Historical Society. However, they have historically been hostile toward the artifact for over a century so that is a dead end unfortunately.

There is no perfect scenario at this time for addressing the evidence that supports the true history behind the Templars in America prior to Chris (Columbus). There are larger forces at work, such as the Roman Catholic Church, that do not want this unflattering history to be revealed.

Sometimes I have a hard time believing such a frightening situation is really true, but sadly that's the way it is.

    2. Lyn,

You laid out the situation perfectly. There currently are no legitimate scholars who take the KRS seriously either due to an inability to truly think critically and without preconceived bias or driven by ulterior motives. You are also correct that larger forces are at work here, such as the Roman Catholic Church and geopolitical groups that do not want to see the "Templar's Founding of America" Pandora's box opened.

The Church is the biggest problem as they have a lot to lose once the KRS's truths are unveiled. Troubling as that is, the truth will eventually come out and it will be amazing.

Keep up the good fight for the truth; it's so worth it.

  33. To whom it may concern, I just watched Scott's deal on Mayans in Georgia. I have hunted the east and west side of the Okmulgee River not far from the Spiral Mound since 1982 and there are plenty of land features as well as mounds in the Oakey Woods WMA, most I can show U on a topo map. The same goes for Blue Ridge WMA and Cohutta WMA... all are worthy of the Lidar making and in my opinion most of them would be more evidence of Mayans in Georgia. I even have a 13,500lb Sacrifice Stone and other artifacts that are of Mayan origin... I'm not looking for attention but would gladly point these places and show U the Atifacts if Ur interested.
